NCH&C Receives Bronze Award Recognising Quality of Work Experience

NHS England Quality Standard - Bronze Award Logo

NHS England Quality Standard - Bronze Award Logo This Learning at Work Week (13 – 19 May), we are delighted to share that NCH&C has been awarded a bronze accreditation from NHS England recognising the quality of our work experience placements.

The NHS England Work Experience Quality Standard gives organisations and placement holders assurance that the work experience on offer reaches the highest possible standards. The standard which aims to support a good level of standardisation and consistency of offer between organisations across the country will also allow an appropriate amount of flexibility to acknowledge that work experience placements are offered in a variety of different ways.

Work experience is a vital recruitment and education channel for the NHS, allowing individuals to get a feel for an occupation or an organisation before committing to a particular career path. It is especially valuable for learners who are considering further academic qualifications, allowing them to get a feel for whether a healthcare career is right for them.

Assessors from NHS England praised the quality of NCH&C’s inductions for those on work experience placements, and the ‘thorough and well-considered’ data collected during the application process.

Rachel Millett, Career Development & Talent for Care Lead at NCH&C, expressed her pleasure with the trust’s new accreditation:

“We are delighted that the quality of our work experience placements has been recognised with this bronze accreditation. Following a two-year pause during the pandemic, we relaunched our work experience scheme last year, welcoming 64 students to the trust in the last year

“We know that a positive work experience placement can be incredibly beneficial to learners, so we hope that this bronze accreditation will reassure individuals that they can expect a supportive and insightful learning experience from NCH&C. We are grateful for the helpful feedback from NHS England, suggesting areas to improve on and a clear plan of action. We are optimistic that we can level up our work experience accreditation with a gold award in the future!”

Applications for work experience placements in 2025 will open later this summer. Our placements are open to anyone who is over 14 years old.  Existing NCH&C staff members may forward details to friends and family, and those outside the organisation are welcome to apply.

Media FAQs

How do I request to take photographs or film footage of/at your premises or of your staff/services?

Please get in touch with the NCH&C communications team for permission to film or take photographs of our premises, staff and/or services before it takes place. If we can support the request, we will.

We’ve put together some guidelines which we ask the media to follow when taking photographs or filming at our trust:

  • To help us with your request, please give us as much notice as possible.
  • In order to protect our patients and staff, photography and filming is not allowed in some areas of the trust. Proper consent must be obtained before filming or photographing patients and/or staff.
  • We don’t usually approve requests to film or photograph general shots of our premises and/or our staff or ‘pieces to camera’ that don’t directly relate to the work of NCH&C.
  • We ask all media professionals on site to be accompanied by a member of our staff at all times.
  • Please follow infection control procedures including using hand gel on entering and leaving clinical areas.

Anyone who is found filming or taking photographs at the hospital without permission will be asked to leave immediately, and footage and photographs may be confiscated.
